Treats For Your Pet

What makes a good treat??? From our pet's point of view, they want it to taste good!!! From our point of view, we want to feel good about giving our pet a treat!!!  We want them to enjoy it, but we also want it to be healthy.

When dealing with pets being overweight, one of the first areas to look at is the treat box!!!. How many calories are in the treat??? You'll not find out by looking at the box because food companies are not required to list the calorie count on the label. Below you will find calorie counts for some commercial treats. These are the ones that we have been able to find calorie information. As you can see, there are some good treats and there are some bad treats in terms of calories. These calories can add up fast if you give your pet a lot of treats. If the treats you feed your pet are not on this list a good rule of thumb is to look at the ingredients list. If you find sugar on the list, especially if it is listed as one of the first three or four ingredients, avoid that treat.

Better yet...check out the treats in the right column...these are "natural treats" and have much better calorie counts. Look down this list and find a couple that your pet likes. If your pet enjoys one of these treats as much as a store bought treat why not feed the healthy alternative!!!!
